Building Our Lower School Community Together

Building Our Lower School Community Together

Lower School students have wrapped up their Back-to-School units exploring friendship, teamwork, leadership, and responsibility, putting those ideas into practice by helping define how they want to learn and interact together this year.

Each homeroom began by developing its own classroom agreements. Representatives from every class then worked with Ms. Melissa to identify common themes and turn those ideas into a shared set of Lower School Agreements: Encourage, collaborate, and help each other learn. Treat people how you want to be treated. Include others. Take care of our community and environment. Do your best.

Every student and teacher added their signature, making a collective commitment to the community they helped create.

The agreements are more than expectations for behavior. By giving students a voice in creating them, the process builds ownership and helps students understand that a strong community is something each of us has a role in creating. These shared commitments will serve as a foundation for how students learn, work, solve problems, and care for one another throughout the year.
