Grade 5 Stream Testing at Osage Creek

Grade 5 Stream Testing at Osage Creek

Grade 5 Science and Upper School Ecology students left campus the week before spring break to conduct stream tests of Little Osage Creek, located next to Creekside Park in Bentonville. Each group of students chose locations along this popular stream to conduct observations and scientific tests. Students recorded data to help Arkansas Game and Fish Commission better understand the health of our local waterways, including pH, turbidity, E.coli, and dissolved oxygen. These metrics help scientists better understand how our growing community is impacting our waterways.

In addition to conducting observations and scientific tests, students used the opportunity to collect waste left behind by patrons. Students removed several bags of trash left along the creek. As we approach Earth Day, these students learned a significant lesson on the value of our waterways and the importance of keeping our environment clean.
