Theater Arts
middle school theater arts
In the Middle School theater classes, students are encouraged to explore, experiment, and take risks in expressing themselves both individually and in the context of short scenes. Students learn to collaborate with their peers while rehearsing and staging short theatrical scenes. The Middle School theater classes cover the fundamentals of theater while helping students gain confidence in public speaking and performance. Students are also encouraged to audition on a play-by-play basis for the two after-school Middle School productions.

Build a character, find your voice, design a set! Thaden theater students tackle great plays from Moliere to Stoppard, from classical to modern masterpieces. Every year there are two mainstage theater productions. In the first trimester, students work on the staging of a selected one-act play. The Upper School’s annual spring production offers students the opportunity to work on a full-length play for performance. As they move from page to stage, students experience theater as a live performing art. There are many ways to participate in some element of the production, whether it be acting, stagecraft, or technical theater. In addition, a selection of theater electives allows students to hone their artistry and interest in a classroom setting.
